General Summary of Position
Provides nutritional care for groups or individuals through nutritional screening, assessment, application of diet therapy, and nutrition education. Utilizes knowledge of disease etiology, food chemistry, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology in performing duties

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
• Provides criteria for Nutrition Services staff and other health care providers to screen for patients at possible nutrition risk. Screening criteria will be based on current knowledge in the field of nutrition science.
• Provides nutritional assessments on 95% of all patients identified at moderate or high risk within 48 hrs. of the completion of the Nutrition Screen.
• Develops and carries out nutrition care plans for patients identified through the assessment process.
• Provides nutrition education for patients identified through the screening, assessment and referral process. Adherences to department procedures and policies demonstrated through competency peer review.
• Participates in the development and implementation of clinical pathways.
• Actively participates in patient care rounds to assure patient's nutritional needs are met prior to discharge and/or appropriate referrals/follow ups are made for after discharge.
• Demonstrates the ability to consider the physical, psychosocial and cultural needs of patients as demonstrated in competency peer review.
• Actively participates in P&T, I.D., N.S, and Patient Education committees, patient care teams, task forces, and Performance Improvement teams relating to patient care. Attends 90% of assigned meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

• Bachelor's degree with a major in foods and nutrition dietetics required or
• related area required

Experience

• Previous experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• RD - Registered Dietician Current registration required or
• registration eligible status with the American Dietetics Associations Commission of Dietetic Registration. required and
• Current license required or
• license eligible status with the Board of Dietetic Practice of the State of Maryland. required

This position has a hiring range of $29.15 - $51.68
