Position Description

The Grant Writer is a part of Nomi Network’s Development team and reports to the Director of Development, with secondary oversight and support provided by the Senior Project Manager. The Grant Writer is responsible for writing and submitting grant proposals and coordinating the full lifecycle of grants, from application to post award reporting and compliance. This role requires a strong understanding of grant funding mechanisms, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, strong organizing and project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Status: Exempt (Salaried)

Salary: $67,000-$72,000

Schedule: Full time

Travel: Employee is expected to travel approximately three times per year

Responsibilities

Grant Management & Administration:

  • Document all grant activities, proposals, and funder information in organization’s shared folder.
  • Work closely with data and research manager to document submitted grants and outcome of grant application in Salesforce.
  • Provide monthly reports to frontline fundraisers and leadership on the status of proposals.
  • Monitor and project manage each grant from start to submission.
  • Administer reporting format processes and provide technical assistance to all appropriate staff to complete reports.

Proposal Development & Writing:

  • Write, review, and edit grant proposals and reports.
  • Manage the grants calendar to ensure compliance with grant cycle deadlines.
  • Work in consultation with program leaders to draft budgets that meet specific RFP (Request for Proposal) requirements.
  • Collaborate with program staff on implementation possibilities that align with the grant opportunity.
  • Craft award letters or letters of agreement as needed.
  • Project manage internal stakeholders and frontline fundraisers for any proposal or report to include international staff.

Research & Outreach:

  • Research prospective national and international grant opportunities, including corporate and other foundations.
  • Work with the frontline fundraisers and leadership to maintain positive relationships with funders, keeping a pulse on changes in funder interests or grant cycle processes.

Communication & Support:

  • Assist with the strategy of grant-related decisions including managing internal meetings to identify and discuss new leads.
  • Collaborate with MEL on outcomes, KPIs, and other evaluation for grants.

Internal Collaboration: 

  • Implement best practices and processes for a highly efficient and successful grants program.
  • Manage grant-related workflows and coordination with all internal stakeholders.
  • Develop a deep familiarity with Nomi Network programs, working closely with MEL team and communications to gather data and impact stories to prepare compelling narratives for proposals and reports.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Data Science, or a related field. May also have equivalent work experience.
  • 2 years of experience writing grants and managing a grants program.
  • Proven success rate in writing grants.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Knowledge of prospecting and conducting research on institutions, corporate foundations, and foundations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using a project management tool such as Monday.com, Trello or similar systems.
  • Experience writing grants for both domestic and international programs.
  • Demonstrated interest in and comfort with using AI tools to support grant management tasks (e.g., prospect research, data analysis, or report drafting).


Physical Requirements:

  • The position functions in a remote office environment that requires the ability to successfully interface with a computer.
  • Sitting, standing, walking, and occasionally climbing stairs are typical activities in this role.
  • Talking (expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word) and hearing (perceiving the nature of sounds) are required.
  • Clarity of vision (i.e., working with small objects or reading small print) is required.
  • The ability to lift objects up to 25 lbs is required.
