Job Description

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Research Assistant 2 to work in the UHealth Campus. The Research Assistant 2 (A) assists with and explores innovations to research and strives to improve implementation and family outcomes. The Research Assistant 2 (A) ensures compliance with University policies, rules, and regulations to meet federal, state, and local standards pertaining to safety and ethics. Core responsibilities include planning and implementing research experiments according to research protocols to assure high-quality scientific results in support of applicable project goals; assisting with assessing the feasibility of implementing innovations; assessing data trends and developing reports and presentations; supporting the initiation of new research by reviewing and synthesizing literature; maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment; assisting in the preparation of scientific papers, reports, and manuscripts; adhering to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguarding University assets. Department specific functions include recruitment capabilities and screening of potential patients/subjects for eligibility to the study, gathering information from medical records, physician referral, advertisement, and scheduling visits; demonstrating critical judgment to maintain research protocol integrity without compromising patient safety; demonstrating skills related to execution of research protocols such as determining eligibility, exclusion criteria, identifying need for modifications and adverse responses; preparing NIH and IRB applications; assisting in development of recruitment strategies and promotional materials; assisting with the informed consent process; creating and maintaining participant charts and coordinating appointments; collecting, organizing, and maintaining source documentation; ensuring protocol compliance as approved by the IRB; participating in research activities by assisting in data collection and initiating research under supervision; interacting with patients/subjects and families in a courteous and professional manner; and extending this professionalism to staff within the School of Medicine and Medical Center staff. Core qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Skills required include collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems; and exercising sound judgment in making critical decisions. Any relevant education, certifications, and/or work experience may be considered.
